You will find lots of references to both Burns and to golf in Ayrshire. Burns because he came from here, golf because there are around 20 good courses, including Turnberry, Royal Troon, Old Prestwick, Western Gailes Turnberry Every bit as good as it looked on television during the 1994 Open, but you really need to be staying in the Turnberry hotel to play the Ailsa and Arran courses Ayr

and worth trying as much as the more expensive, more difficult to get
on courses Troon as well as Royal Troon , there are some outstanding municipal courses plus the fine links at Kilmarnock Barrassie. Irvine has two excellent courses, Glasgow Gailes and Western Gailes. Or you can try Irvine Bogside for some of the finest greens in Scotland Arran
get away from the crowds and visit the Isle of Arran. Watch stags wander
over the course at the Lochranza West Kilbride is a links course with few undulations, but it is exposed to the raw west winds and has some tricky holes. |
