The granite domes of the Cairngorms lie between the Spey and the Dee. 9 peaks are over 4000 feet. The region is therefore known for skiing, climbing and mountain walking
Also to be found in the region are some of the few Golden Eagles left in Britain, the occasional Highland Gathering, and even the whisky distilleries reach up into the hills
In the foothills of the mountains the land is farmed with sheep, and there are marvelous walks along the Spey valley
If you do not fancy the climb, there are various chair lifts that will take you to 4000 feet. But be warned it can be cold up there!
