Glen Grant has been sold as a bottled single malt Scotch whisky for a hundred years or more. It was known in Scotland before brands like Glenfiddich began to move into the English and international markets. Glen Grant is among the world's largest volume selling malts.
Founded in 1840 and some of the original buildings remain in Rothes. The distillery is grouped round a courtyard with turreted offices in the typical Scottish Baronial style of the 1880s. Some of the stills continue to be coal-fired.
The Glen Grant distillery is located at the end of the main street of Rothes. It was founded by James and John Grant who liked spring water from the Caperdonich Well on the hillside above the town.
