Ayr Ayrshire golf courses

You will find lots of references to both Burns and to golf in Ayrshire. Burns because he came from here, golf because there are around 20 good courses, including Turnberry, Royal Troon, Old Prestwick, Western Gailes

Turnberry Every bit as good as it looked on television during the 1994 Open, but you really need to be staying in the Turnberry hotel to play the Ailsa and Arran courses

Ayr Belleisle - a municipal couse in , favoured by professionals and worth trying as much as the more expensive, more difficult to get on courses

Old Prestwick  was  the venue of the first Open in 1860 It is still a challenging course, as is Prestwick St Nicholas

Troon  as well as Royal Troon , there are some outstanding  municipal courses plus the fine links at Kilmarnock Barrassie.

Irvine  has two excellent courses, Glasgow Gailes and Western Gailes. Or you can try Irvine Bogside for some of the finest greens in Scotland

Arran get away from the crowds and visit the Isle of Arran. Watch stags wander over the course at the Lochranza
Golf Course or enjoy views over Holy Isle from Lamlash Golf Club

West Kilbride is a links course with few undulations, but it is exposed to the raw west winds and has some tricky holes. Lamlash Irvine Royal Troon Prestwick Ayr Turnberry
